Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I stay in touch with my Recruitment & Placement Consultant?
Please contact your Recruitment & Placement Consultant on a monthly basis. This can be done by phone or email. If the Consultant doesn't have an assignment, your file will be updated, however, the call will not be returned. If you have a specific question, please indicate what the inquiry is in the message and this call will be returned.
Please contact you consultant if you are unavailable, on a temporary assignment or have accepted a permanent job offer.
If your career goal or circumstances change, please contact your Consultant to update.
When do I qualify for overtime? How do I fill out the time card?
Overtime is paid after an employee has worked in excess of 8 hours per day or 44 hours per week. If you are making up time at your request, please indicate this on your time card. Always get approval from your on-site supervisor before working overtime. Overtime must always be pre-approved.
E.g. If you work 10 hours in one day, indicate 8 regular hours on your time card and 2 hours overtime.
E.g. If you work 8 hours Monday through Friday and work 4 hours on Saturday, these hours will be at regular time (as you would not have worked over 44 hours in the week).
Overtime is paid at 1.5 of your hourly wage.
How do I qualify to get paid for statutory holidays? How do I fill out the time card?
A qualified employee who is normally scheduled to work the day on which a statutory holiday falls would qualify as follows:
Full Time Employee
If you worked 210 hours (30 full time days) for Diversified Staffing Services in the last year
And worked "your normally scheduled work day" prior to & following the statutory holiday.
Part Time Employee
The statutory holiday falls on a regular scheduled day of work
& you have worked 5 out of the previous 9 days (same day of work)
If you did not work on the stat do not fill in any hours - we will automatically calculate your entitlement to statutory pay.
Indicate "Stat-not worked" on the day, but no hours.
Your total should reflect only hours worked.
When does an employee NOT receive statutory holiday pay?
If the statutory holiday falls on a day that would not have been a regular work day for the employee.
What are the Statutory Holidays in Alberta?
New Years Day (January), Family Day (February), Good Friday (March/April), Victoria Day (May), Canada Day (July), Labor Day (September), Thanksgiving Day (October), Remembrance Day (November), Christmas Day (December).
Note: Boxing Day and the August Civic Holiday are NOT statutory holidays.
Remember, for you to be eligible for statutory pay, the stat must fall on a normal working day.
What if I work a Statutory Holiday?
If you work on a statutory holiday, complete your time card with hours worked and indicate "stat worked". You will be paid at 1.5 of your regular hourly wage.
